This book was given as a gift, along with a mermaid doll, for a little girl on her 2nd birthday. Her mother reports that she loves the book as do the whole family. They read it over and over again.My grandson got this s book when he was about 7 months old and destroyed it. I bought him another copy at 2 1/2 and he loves the textures and interactiveness. It’s so cute, I bought one for my 1 year old granddaughter, but will hold it until she’s older.This book is so well made! Its very thick and all the pull out tabs and pop ups are very sturdy in my one year olds hands! Not only is it an adorable counting book, but they're having a tea party while counting! Each page is a different number, with a different sea creature, along with the mermaids, for example, crabs and seahorses, etc. The illustrations are beatiful and the text is well written. I had read a review that said the text was strange.....i dont think so at all. The text is cute and geared towards a child. My daughter loves this book already, saying "again mama" after reading it for the first time. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a book to teach counting, or just a nice book! This book can be enjoyed by babies, toddlers and kindergarden age alike! I am very happy with my purchase, this book was a bit more expensive than most of the type, but worth it.Got this for a friends 3 year old daughter's birthday. She absolutely loves it. The book is so adorable. It has flaps to open to see pictures as you are reading the book. The mermaids tail really moves on the front of the book by moving a flap back & forth.As another reviewer said, my 4-year-old daughter also wanted this book after reading the fairies book by this author. She loves this one just as much. Beautiful artwork, cute story. My daughter loves the moving parts, the different textures, and the beautiful colors. Just beware if trying to buy the book at a lower price from another seller. I went for the highest-priced seller on the "new books" list, and the book obviously was NOT new, as it was missing a couple key moving parts. I did not have time to try for an exchange since it was close to Christmas. As a review of the product itself, I highly recommend the book.UPDATE: The seller contacted me. Though it was AFTER Christmas already, the seller did apologize for the mistake in sending a damaged book, and the seller sent me a new, undamaged book free of charge. It arrived within a few days. Not ideal, but I did appreciate the effort by the seller to amend his mistake.I love the Matthew Van Fleet books. Alien Opposites and Tails are two of our favorites. That being said I was hoping for the same caliber and while it's a really great book it's not quite there.There are several places where kids can pull or push and make movement, some good textures and beautiful artwork.I love the counting part of this book and the story is very simple, which is great for younger kids. And there aren't enough books about mermaids in my opinion.However I thought the sticky part was weird (and some sort of disgusting mess just waiting to happen) and wondered why the part with the snails smelling isn't scratch and sniff.Overall this book is worth buying, especially if you have very hands on kiddos who love to touch and move!My son loves the interactive elements (pull/push tabs, textures, and flaps). The words have good cadence and variety, the illustrations are clear and fun, and it's kiddo-approved.I love buying books that do something different. We have so many traditional board books and chapter books for hids on our home. This one has fun moving parts, textures, and even a slightly sticky page that goes along with the story. I bought this several years ago for my three year old. She is now 6 and still enjoys reading it and can now read it herself. Even if your child does not love mermaids, the quality of this book and the features are unique and worthwhile.An amazing children's book, wish it was around when I was young! It's really beautiful, a little pricey but well worth it, it does not only have truly beautiful pictures, it also helps little ones to learn to count. Made of thick board pages and pop ups throughout. Purchased it for a very active 3 year old who adores mermaids, would certainly buy again as a little girl's ideal gift.very sweet story with nice drawing, counting + interactionsThe illustrations in this book are wonderful! Colourful and glittery. The rhyming storyline is also great. My 2yr old daughter loves to pull the tabs and lift the flaps. My only complaint is that I wish it had pull tabs on every page. My daughter will literally try to skip over the pages without them. LolMy little girl loved this book when she was 4 to 6. Sweet story and illustrations...the sensory part of the book is nice too.Excellent book
