We bought this tote as a birthday present for an English professor. We put two large non-fiction books in it. He loved it. It is very well made of sturdy canvas. The screen print is bright and true to the picture. You could easily fit 5-10 large paperbacks( depending on your definition of large) in this tote. I would highly recommend this bag. We gave it away so I do not know about washing it but typically canvas will shrink quite a bit. Happy book toting!! :)Bought two totes for my 9 year old twins.
