As a volunteer, I read one-on-one to pre-school children at a Head Start school. I am supposed to pick from a selected bag of books but, now and then, I'll buy a book on my own and "road test" it on the kids to see if they like it before I donate it to the organization for which I volunteer.Rainforest Wonders was a hit right from day one! The three things "my" kids love best are board books, interactive books and bright/shiny colors, and this book has all three! Each double-page layout introduces a new rainforest animal through a question teaser--sort of "What sort of animal is this going to be?" but in a more interesting way. Then the child gets to slide out the insert on the right side and see the answer. When we get to the jaguar and the crocodile, they love it when I make growly or scary sounds as the animals are revealed and they shriek or jump in mock fright. It is quite hilarious! In addition to it being a sturdy and interactive book, it is really quite beautiful. Not only is it done in very rich, bright colors, but there is some element of shininess on every page through use of a foil-type paper. The ONLY downside I've found to Rainforest Wonders is that there just isn't enough of it. I would have loved if it was even two or three pages longer.HIGHLY recommended for the pre-school set.
